Brooklyn Heights Visit

The buildings are so cute.

Audition for a cop role.  The guy in the lobby of the casting office building: "You're a police officer, right?" Yes! I had to dig through my closet for this one. What do you think?

Dealing with tiny bathrooms for outfit changes between auditions.

Casting for "party girl".  The notes I got said to wear a cocktail dress or an evening gown.  Everyone else came in hoochie wear.  I looked like a bridesmaid compared to them.  Hoochie wear made a lot more sense.

Sephora Nail Polish Sale

My sister-in-law, niece, and I raided the local Sephora.  They are having a major sale on nail polish!

On my nails (clockwise starting with the thumb):  Dior in Lucky, Illamasqua in Creator, Nail Colour in Sugar Plum Fairies, Nails Inc. Feathers series in Brighton, and Dior in Riviera.

I'm not a big fan of spending a lot of money on nail polish so it is hard for me to admit this.  But I experienced a huge difference in the $24 bottle of Dior nail color.  It wasn't as watery as the other brands, and a quick coat of it resulted in a brilliantly shiny, smooth surface.  I could ALMOST see why people would pay that much for nail polish...almost.

My sister-in-law thought the Illamasqua formula was high quality.  She had used a regular polish.  The Illamasqua polish I used in Creator had glitter in it, and I thought it was a little runny.  I had to put on 3 coats to get an even look.  Similarly, the Nail Colour in Sugar Plum required 3 coats and a lot of manipulating of the glitter so that the sparkles would be evenly distributed.  In the end, I still had a couple of "bald" spots.

The most difficult polish to apply was the Nails Inc. Feather series polish.  It is like clear polish with confetti thrown in the mix.  The formula was so thick that I just had a blob sitting on my nail.  Like the glitter polishes, I had to physically move the confetti around to make it look decent.  When it dried, I looked like I had astroturf on my nail.  Not recommended.

Here are some of the Nails Inc. Leather Effect Polish options

I tried it in a light gray color named Old Compton Street.  I don't know if I'd say it resembles leather, but I appreciate the texture.  More the appearance than the feeling.  It's like you have a plastic nail that feels like an emery board, but less rough.  Despite the odd graininess, I dig it!

Leather + Tweed

As we are experiencing a little reprieve from the heat in NYC,  I couldn't help but think about the materials that will be more "wear-able" in the coming months.

One of the combos I'm looking forward to trying is leather + tweed.

Would You...Midi Rings?

Midi rings, or above the knuckle or mid knuckle rings, have been showing up everywhere.   What do you think about the trend?

Great combination of different colors, textures, and shapes!

Digging these chunky ones!

I don't understand how the ones at the tips of the fingers don't fall off!

I really like how these go together...and the amazing nail polish doesn't hurt!

Have you been wearing midi rings?  I don't own any, but I'm totally inspired to add some to my jewelry collection!  I can imagine replacement rings coming in handy. They look like they're easy to lose!

FEED USA + Target

I love shopping at Target, and now there's another reason to feel good about it.

FEED's and Target's partner Feeding America will receive 10% of the original retail price of items from the Feed USA + Target collection.  What's neat is that you can tell how many meals each purchase will provide; this is listed on each product tag.

The collection is very Americana, and many items give a patriotic vibe in their red, white, and blue colors.

Week in Pictures (Last Week, that is.)

Dogwalking: Ali the boxer

On the move

We received oysters in the mail as a gift. But they came during the heat wave.  :(

First wakeboarding trip of the summer

My buddy Joni chilling with the city behind her

Sunset on the Hudson

After 2 weeks of not having a go-to mode of transportation at camp,  I seriously appreciate the subway (metro?).   Queens to NYC for an audition.

I'm not a big fan of musicals, but this, I liked!
