It's Cute. It's Colorful. It's eos Lip Balm.

Ok, I'll be honest. When I first saw these egg-shaped lip balms people would pull out and practically suck on to apply, I thought they were ridiculous.  I had no desire to pucker up for this gimmicky product.

Then their marketing magic hit me.

I kept seeing all these precious ads for the eos lip balms in magazines.

I wanted the lemon one.  No, I HAD to have the yellow one.

"Hello. I'm so cute. Buy me."

The eos container reminded me of my old Tamagotchi.  Yes, I used to own one, which is embarrassing to admit.  I once left a college classroom to go "feed" it.  I went all the way back to my dorm room only to find that my little digital pet had already starved to death. Maybe that's why the lemon drop eos lip balm pulled at my heartstrings.

Another reason I had avoided purchasing the product was because I had assumed those suckers would be super expensive.  Yet, I discovered at Target, they are $2.99.  Not bad.  I could justify the purchase.

The container has a nice silicone-ish soft feeling to it.  It has a screw cap with a satisfying "click" sound when you close and open it.  So you feel secure in letting the container roll around in your purse without the fear of the dome goodness getting exposed and smearing everywhere.

I love lemon fragrance, but I get terrified of the Pledge cleaner smell. The smell and taste of this balm...delicious.  Like Lemon Heads candy! No cleaner smell.  And it's 100% natural flavor.

When I tested the balm out at the beach, the SPF 15 proved to protect my lips from burning.  However, my lips felt pretty dry, and the skin wasn't really getting moisturized from the balm.  The product just sat on top of my lips and felt waxy.  I've been using the balm for a couple of days now, and it's staying on my lips and keeping them hydrated.  I don't know if I was just really dehydrated on the beach.  This particular flavor had pretty positive reviews on Amazon (it's the only flavor with SPF), and one customer noted that her lips had to get "used" to the formula and that she noted a gradual change to the conditions of her lips.  I, too, see that my lips are much softer and no longer chapped!

I believe two things may be happening here.  My lips may be agreeing with the petroleum and paba-free formula including the conditioning oils (shea butter & vitamin E).  Or it may be that I love reaching for the adorable container so I am wearing lip balm more frequently than usual, resulting in smoother lips.  This will sound juvenile, but I have fun putting it on! You know how I mentioned that people look stupid applying it. I actually mean people like me.  Because from celebrity photos "caught" using eos, they seem to glide the stuff on one lip at a time.

I apply eos on both of my top and bottom lips at the same time. I practically make out with my eos. And I like it.

Would I buy it again?  My lips look great! And they feel hydrated for long periods of time.  I can think of more moisturizing formulas out there, but it's the container, lip balm shape, smell, and taste that motivate me to regularly apply it.  With other brands, I tend to forget about wearing balm so I walk around with chapped and unprotected lips.  Yes...I got tricked by the kitschy packaging. And am reaping the benefits!
