Thanksgiving 2015

Hellooooo, everyone. How was your Turkey Day celebration?

Andrew and I did our usual drive to Pittsburgh for the weekend.  His sister joined us for the ride made up of catch up chats, Invisibilia, and Criminal. This sweetie greeted us when we arrived. Golden retriever puppy Maya.

Hey, what's up? Will you be the sucker who feeds me food I'm not supposed to have because I will 100% get diarrhea from it?

If I had to choose a photo that sums up the weekend, it would be this one. Let's relaaaaax with drinks!

There is no way I could be imbibing on that T Day level in front of my mom or other Korean elders. Oh, there would be judging, for sure.  I've only just begun to drink ANY alcohol in the presence of my mother.  She bought some red wine to pair with our Costco steak.  The second I took a sip, she sniffed at me and remarked, "It's such a turn off...the smell alcohol off of a woman's breath." This is about a minute before she poured herself some of wine.  I know.  Confusion.

Anyway, the family's Italian so what do you expect? Of course, there is gonna be some wine...and tequila.  Because why not.

Settlers of Catan. This was a way more civilized version than what we attempted last year.  One of the cousins tried to teach us Settlers of Patron.  The frat boy aspect of taking shots with this game got neutralized by the REALLY nerdy aspect of Catan.

Are the holidays really OVER?

I'm sure the general consensus is that starting a new year is exciting. I, too, am super pumped up for 2015.  I swear! But I'm so sad that the holidays are DONE. I look forward to hitting all my new goals with recharged boldness, but I have honestly been enjoying lounging around in pj's and binge watching "Homeland"--I'm having a heart attack with these episodes!! What...Brody???  (Take that however you want. It's not a spoiler if it's vague!)

So, as I get ready to return to reality with work tomorrow evening, I shall bask in happy end-of-year memories with loved ones. Sniff.

Thanksgiving was the bomb.com.  I even woke up early to go downtown and do yoga. Then it was a downward spiral of a horribly uneven ratio of calorie intake to calorie burn off for the rest of the year. Oh well. I tried, guys.

After a local, low-key NYC Thanksgiving with my husband and dear friend, my husband and I got together with his family in Pittsburgh for the classic T Day feast.

During the planning and cooking throughout the day, this Jury family quiche kept us going.

It's so amusing to me when the kitchen starts filling with frenetic energy as instructions are called out and everyone's running around being a "Director of Mashed Potatoes" and "Director of Stuffing".  It's like a nicer version of Hell's Kitchen.

Weekend in Pics

It's official.  I ate way too much over the weekend. Time to get the Fitbit out and count those calories.  UGH.

Thanksgiving in Pittsburgh

I get really excited about heading down to Pittsburgh every year to see my husband's family. Our celebration occurs on the weekend. We usually have about 2 dozen people gather together for order-in Chinese food on Friday, family games, arts & crafts, inappropriate jokes/conversation, and of course- awesome T-Day food on Saturday!

2 things were going to sweeten the deal this year:

1) Fried turkey. I'm a sorry excuse for a Southerner.  I never had this before. Now, I can say I have. And it is freaking amazing.

HECK YEAH

2) My friend from LA, Thuy, was coming to join us for dinner with her boyfriend! This is what they arrived to once entering the house.

Club music and duct tape fashion. We do a contest every year for best design.

Our winning cousin.  Ladies, he's single. Yes, that's my niece behind him.   Everyone in the family is fairly subjected to the weirdness.
