Beauty Hardware

I already have a weakness for metallic details adorning clothes, belts, and handbags.  Now I have to worry about shiny, pretty things in the beauty department!

Wine Chiller

I hear this is a nice trick to chill white wine without watering it down.

source
You get a delicious treat after the wine! And if the grapes absorb some alcohol, even better, right?

If you're into alcohol soaked fruit, you should check out some bolle recipes.  I remember my friend's mom would make some BOMB.com mixes of pineapples, strawberries, grapes, and champagne.

Cheers!

Week in Pics

Started the week off right with some wakeboarding action with my brother-in-law.  I like how people freak out about us going into the Hudson.  C'mon, guys.  It's only a little raw sewage. ;)

It was one of those trips out where everyone came back feeling satisfied with exhibiting some new skills.  I landed on my face a couple of times.  Thank God water is forgiving.

I finally "massaged" a kale salad!  The molested greens were delicious with tomatoes from my aunt and uncle's garden!

A highlight of the week was attending the Long Beach International Film Festival.  Five of our short films from the Manhattan Film Institute acting camp were accepted, including two movies in which I acted.  It was a nice bonus on top of just being able to be a part of such fun projects.

Movies on the Beach!  Free Popcorn!

We did get to go on the Red Carpet.  Though I would say it was more of a standing thing than walking.  We stood there for an interview and photos.  Then we scooted right back through where we entered.

Do you spy the Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister?

Camera Phone Hybrids

Have you ever been in a moment that should be captured in a high quality photo only to have it spoiled by your phone's crummy camera?  Dark, fuzzy images that are the results of multiple, futile takes by poor strangers who were unfortunate in getting paparazzi duty for your group photo. Blurry pics from zooming in on your desired subject. Everyone looking like robots with laser beam eyes.  Wouldn't it be great to have a cell phone and a point-and-shoot quality camera combined into one device?

That's what the creators of the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom aimed to achieve.

Trend: Clutches with Side Hand Straps

I'm a fan of these clutches where you can slip your hand through the side strap. It's a little extra security for holding onto your purse.  Since I like being able to carry bags multiple ways, these clutches with a cross body option are awesome!

The Rise of Asian Models

When I was growing up, the only Asian female face out in the media was Connie Chung.  No offense to Connie Chung, but she was more like a mom figure.

I didn't see young Asian women on TV or magazines.  I think the closest person to Asian at the time was Phoebe Cates, who is part Filipina.  But she doesn't have eyes like me.  And I'm pretty sure I thought she was Mexican.  I'll admit that I wasn't a bright child.

Phoebe's face is so darling. Do you remember her in Gremlins?

Are You Ready for the Phillip Lim - Target Collaboration?

The Phillip Lim for Target collection will hit stores on September 15.  The line will include clothing, bags, accessories, and shoes for both men and women.

source

The prices will range from $20-$60 for accessories and $20-$300 for apparel.  If $300 sounds steep for our beloved Target, one must remember it IS Phillip Lim.  His leather jackets will be selling for $250-$300 at Target, but a leather jacket from his 3.1 line usually costs over $1800. So I guess you could consider it a steal!  It may just be the photos, but the products look like they are of decent quality.

All different bags, I believe. All so cute! Am I getting into those weird winged purses?

Week in Pics

Started the week with work right on the river

Seeing friends I've known since elementary school at Bosie Tea Parlor! Fantastic tea selection and the scones are out of this world! And as disgusting as clotted cream sounds, you better try it.

Can't Get All of Your Eye Cream? Scoop It All Out With This....

"I don't like getting the most bang for the buck," said NO ONE ever.

I hate getting potato chip bags with half of the contents being air.  I especially despise containers with products in it that are unreachable.

That's why I use tools such as chopsticks to help stuff not go to waste.
I wrote about this in a previous post.

It did a decent job, but there is something called an Every Drop Beauty Spatula that can scrape up even more goodness.  You can buy one for $5 at drugstore.com.

Stonewashed Nails

I was flipping through Marie Claire and saw ideas on nail art.  Creating this stonewashed effect with sponge-tip eyeshadow applicators seemed easy enough.

Except it wasn't that easy for me.  Here are my results.

These Winged Bags!

I keep seeing these purses with these side flaps/wings everywhere.

It totally reminds me of an upside down flying nun habit.

I don't understand the gaping side pockets those wings create, but I read online that people like being able to reach into their purse without opening the top.  I guess that's convenient...?

How to Avoid Watered Down Iced Coffee

Have you tried this? Using frozen coffee cubes in milk. Less watered down iced coffee than with regular ice cubes. Could you wait for the coffee cubes to melt?

Review: Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser

source

After seeing YouTube videos from beauty vloggers praising this face wash, I was curious if it was the real deal.  At $22 for an 8-oz. container at Sephora, Purity is a little pricey (there are several size options).  I'm used to paying $6.99 for a 5 oz. tube of L'Oreal's Advanced RevitaLift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser or getting 16 ounces of Cetaphil for about $10.

Despite the high price tag, the benefits sound great.  It is called a one-step facial cleanser because it combines the power of a cleanser, toner, and makeup remover all in one product.  This cleanser supposedly dissolves makeup and dirt with a pH-balanced formula that is gentle to the most sensitive skin and even the eye area.  I feel that usually "gentle" equals "not-gonna-take-any-makeup-off-and-you'll-feel-like-your-face-has-a-layer-of-grease-still-on-it".  So I challenged the Purity cleanser to take on my made-up face.

Would you...camouflage?

Camouflage is in, guys.  Designers such as Michael Kors, Rebecca Minkoff, and Christopher Kane made use of the military print on the runways of their Fall 2013 shows.  Magazines have been showcasing camo outfits in their summer editions.

I personally don't find camouflage appealing.  I don't think I've ever worn camo print, actually. The shapes within the print don't really bother me...I can't quite put my finger on it.  I just know that especially when they are in the original color scheme of greens or khakis, it instantly reminds me of G.I. Joes.  It makes me feel really silly imagining myself wearing it.
