Spotify Mobile App

image via spotify.com

I got an email last night that notified me that Android users could now play FREE radio from Spotify.  iPhone users had received this option about a month ago, and both applications provide the same functionalities.  Previously, only paying subscribers could get any mobile access to Spotify.

Some of the things that Spotify boasts for the new Android Spotify radio include:

*Totally new app with full support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

*Top-to-bottom redesign

*All-new slide-out navigation

*"Extreme" sound quality setting for 320kbps listening

*Last.fm scrobbling

Spotify users can create radio stations based on songs, artists, albums, or playlists (similar to Pandora Radio). A feature for Spotify that is also found on Pandora Radio is the thumbs up or down rating.  All users, paying or non-paying, will have access to this free radio feature.  Of course, premium subscribers get to avoid listening to ads while nonpaying subscribers have to deal with ads between song breaks.

I will be back to review how my new Spotify mobile app is treating me on my Android!

  1. How do you find the Spotify as a mobile app? Does it exceed the features of Pandora? I think the only disadvantage of Spotify is that it is only compatible with the new Andriod 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. However, it can also be an advantage because more and more smartphones are upgrading to a newer version of the android OS. So, Spotify may certainly stick with other mobile radio apps.

    1. I don't really use it often, but I like it. I wouldn't say it exceeds the features of Pandora. They have very similar features. With similar limitations. Some people argue that Pandora has a better gauge for what the listener likes to hear based on its playlists/thumbs up.
