It can be quite difficult for veterans to transition back to civilian life. And of course, when soldiers are survived by their families, that is a situation in which much support may be needed. There are various ways to help our veterans and their families: item donations, financial help, volunteer work, or a simple thank you!
Pick Up Please is a donation program that will pick up clothing, household goods, books, shoes, small appliances, electronics, and more. It's so convenient; you can even leave the contributions outside your home in a labeled bag! The driver will leave a tax deduction receipt for you whether you or home or not!

Volunteer at a local veterans services organization. US Vets is just one place where you can offer your help. Its programs include transitional and affordable housing, employment assistance, mental health services and counseling, and substance abuse treatment. There are also great opportunities to volunteer at a local VA medical center.

Adopt a military unit or a family within the unit through a church or volunteer organization. You can offer donations, food, babysitting services, home maintenance, transportation, and other ways to provide support.

If you are able to contribute money to veterans, you can use Charity Navigator to make sure your donation is being used efficiently. This website rates how well your funds are spent toward helping our veterans. Neat!
